The Local Planning Council was formed in accordance with state law established by Assembly Bill 2141. The creation of the Council was for the purpose of identifying local child care priorities and developing policies to fulfill those priorities.

The Council is comprised of 25 member seats who represent consumers of child care services, child care providers, community and public agencies, and child care advocates. Members are appointed by the County Board of Supervisors and Ventura County Superintendent of Schools. The California Department of Social Services provides funding for the work of the council, which includes the following:

  • Conducts local needs assessment
  • Establishes local priorities for child care funding
  • Develop county-wide strategic plan
  • Facilitate the temporary and voluntary transfer of funds between State funded agencies

The Local Planning Council meets the second Tuesday of select months and meetings are open to the public. Read the Council bylaws here.
